NORTHFIELD, Ill. — The Kraft Heinz Company has issued a voluntary recall for more than 36,000 cases of Kraft Singles cheese slices due to a possible choking hazard.

According to a press release from the company, the recall impacts select code dates and manufacturing codes of Kraft Singles individually-wrapped slices. The company states that there is a possibility that a thin strip of the packaging film may stick to the cheese after it has been removed from the plastic. If the film remains stuck to the cheese, it could be a choking hazard.

The affected products are the 3-lb and 4-lb. sizes of Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized prepared cheese with a best when used date of Dec. 29, 2015 through Jan. 4, 2016. The products have a Manufacturing Code S54 or S55. The manufacturing codes are stamped on both the 3-lb. and 4 lb. boxes and the enclosed individual 1-lb. packages.

Kraft states that there have been 10 customer complaints about the packaging. Three people reportedly choked on the slices.

The cheese slices were shipped to retailers through out the United States, Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman.
